Todd Rundgren’s Utopia rolls out reunion dates

Todd Rundgren’s Utopia is reforming for a North American theater tour this spring, marking their first set of shows since 2011. Utopia was best known in the ’70s and ’80s as Rundgren’s backing band on most of his solo albums and group efforts, starting out as a world class prog ensemble before morphing into one of the tightest new wave groups at the dawn on the MTV era.
Joining Rundgren for the tour are Kasim Sulton on bass, who first played with the band in 1976, Willie Wilcox on drums who was with (Utopia) from 1976 to 1986, and keyboardist Ralph Schuckett from one of the earliest incarnations of the band in 1974 and 1975.
A while back, Todd Rundgren told us that summing up his career isn’t something he’s comfortable with and is really a job best-suited for others: “It’s a little bit difficult to see yourself — particularly having gone thorough all the changes I have — of being able to be summed up in that sense. I can get perspective on part of what I’m doing, but I can never get perspective on all of what I’m doing. And part of what I’m doing is trying to avoid repeating myself.”
