Here’s who Eddie Vedder calls when he’s "tying one on"

Eddie Vedder often swigs from a bottle of wine during Pearl Jam concerts, but with live shows still mostly on hold, he’s found something else to do when he’s enjoying one or several drinks.

According to Neil Finn — he of Crowded House, Split Enz and currently Fleetwood Mac — Vedder calls him while listening to live recordings of his music and “tying one on.”

“[Vedder] has a whole collection of live tapes of Crowded House, Split Enz, The Who, all of the things that Eddie loves,” Finn tells Essentials Radio on Apple Music. “And he’ll ring me up in the middle of the night when he’s listening to one, and he’s tying one on a little bit, and he’s got a live tape on.”

Finn adds that he’s always happy to receive a late night phone call from Vedder.

“He’s just so full of love and enthusiasm, he wants to pass it on, even if he’s waking us up at the time and all that, but we never mind,” Finn says. “He’s a very special person. He’s got a very good soul.”

Hopefully we’ll all get to enjoy a drink in person with Vedder when Pearl Jam’s able to get back on the road in support of their latest album, 2020’s Gigaton. The grunge icons are currently scheduled to tour Europe this summer.
