Kiss‘ Gene Simmons recently revealed why his group never sued Bruce Springsteen over his 2009 song, “Outlaw Pete,” which had some similarities to Kiss’ 1979 disco hit, “I Was Made For Lovin’ You.” During a recent interview The Guardian, Simmons said, “KISS have sued lots of people for plagiarism and won . . . But some people we don’t sue. We didn’t sue Bruce Springsteen for ‘Outlaw Pete’. How do we decide who to sue and who not to? We like Springsteen. We don’t sue.”

  • In 2016, Kiss co-founder Paul Stanley also addressed the similarities between the two songs. He told Blabbermouth.net, “There’s a Springsteen song that sounds like… There’s a part of the song that sounds like ‘I Was Made For Loving You’, so I’m sure he wasn’t sitting around listening to that. But it finds its way into everybody’s music. You can’t come down on everybody for their creativity.”
  • “Outlaw Pete” was on Springsteen’s 2009 album, Working On A Dream. In 2014, Springsteen released a picture book, also titled Outlaw Pete, inspired by the song which featured artwork from Frank Caruso.
