How do you or the person you are nominating proudly serve? What was your rank / job?

Steve was in the United States Navy Seabees, Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 5, home port Port Hueneme, CA. Two all expense paid trips to Republic of Viet Nam. Petty Officer 2nd Class, CEC (Electrician)
1st trip itinerary took in river patrol forward operating bases at Rach Soi, Cho Moi, and Kien An. The 2nd trip was named Detail Bronco at a spot called Ta Ku. The job was to construct a road up a mountainside and then build a coastal radar station on top of the mountain all the while providing our own security. A daily task was “Mine Sweep Detail.” In the eight months that they were there, they uncovered-discovered a total of approximately 23 IED’s. Found some before they could blow up; some found us. They ranged from a pound or two of C4 to twenty something pounds of High Explosive. The crazy part? NONE of the 82 men assigned to Detail Bronco had received even a moment of ordinance discovery and disposal training! Not one; nada. Even the OIC was blown up one fine morning together with three other men.

Why should you or the person you are nominating be a Real Rock Hero?

Steve has listened to KSHE since 1967-68 while attending Webster Groves Senior High. While home on leave, made a tape (reel to reel) of a Radio Rich Dalton show. Nothing special, just him doing what he did best. Upon return to RVN, that tape was played countless times in the bunker we called home. At the end of the deployment, it was so popular that we auctioned it off. Mike Elder from Washington state won. We need to track him down. Sunday morning classics were the best with Rich and his “tasty tunes.” Sat next to Jimi Hendrix at lunch while in Hawaii on R&R! How cool is that?

What do you like best about KSHE 95?

KSHE has stood the test of time. Retains a local flavor and has been with me since forever. Long Live Sweetmeat! On air personalities make the shows uniquely interesting for the listener.
