After forming in 1972, Mama’s Pride quickly grew a strong following. They signed to Atco Records in 1974, a division of Atlantic Records at that time. They released the self-titled album Mama’s Pride in 1975, which was produced by Grammy Award winning producer Arif Mardin.

The woman on the album cover isn't actually Pat & Danny Liston’s mother. Her name was Gertrude Marx and was a part time weather lady in Miami. The band shot the picture in the front window of a furniture store, while they were open

Drummer Kevin Sanders' name was misspelled on the first run of the album. The band's manager was from Macon, Georgia and pronounced it Saunders, so that’s how he spelled it for the record company
While at a party with Ahmet Ertegun, the band's manager was relentlessly dogging Danny Liston about the bottom of his feet being dirty. Danny wanted to shut him up, so he took him into to the bathroom, stepped both feet in the toilet, flushed it and said, “There... are you happy? Now shut up and leave me alone
