Tom Petty plays biggest hits and deep cuts on new tour

Talk about a crowd-pleasing show, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers are leaving casual fans and diehards breathless with a pitch-perfect setlist on their opening night gigs.

Petty and the crew are out on the road in celebration of their 40th anniversary and underlined the point by opening with the practically never performed 1976 debut deep cut "Rockin' Around (With You)." Petty & The Heartbreakers are dipping into both their recent releases and Petty solo classics during the show and wowing the crowd with such iconic hits as "You Got Lucky," "I Won't Back Down," "Free Fallin'," "Walls," "Don't Come Around Here No More," "Learning To Fly," "Refugee," "Runnin' Down A Dream," "You Wreck Me," and "American Girl," among others.

Tom Petty explained what he believes sets the Heartbreakers' brand of rock apart from many other bands: "So much about this music is about feel as opposed to, say, technique. Technique is great, but it will never substitute for feel. And that's what the Heartbreakers and I are striving for. So that you feel it and you believe it."

Tom Petty's interest in music began at age ten when he met Elvis Presley. In the summer of 1961, his uncle was working on the set of Presley's film Follow That Dream in nearby Ocala, Florida, and invited Petty to come down and watch the shoot. He instantly became an Elvis Presley fan and traded his Wham-O slingshot for a collection of Elvis 45s
