Bruce Springsteen dives deep for latest archival dip

Bruce Springsteen has taken a deep dive into his archive for the two latest vault releases packaged as a bundle. Palace Theatre - Albany, NY - February 7, 1977 and Auditorium Theatre - Rochester, NY - February 8, 1977, are never-before-heard mono soundboard recordings of the E Street Band captured live during Springsteen's infamous "lawsuit tour" during the period where his legal issues with ex-manager Mike Appel prevented him from recording his long-awaited followup to Born To Run. The band was augmented by the Miami Horns, which first joined the Born To Run tour in August 1976.

Alongside such Springsteen perennials as "Growin' Up," "Spirit In The Night," "Thunder Road," "Rosalita," "Backstreets," the '77 shows had started incorporating such new material as "Something In The Night," "Rendezvous," and "The Promise." The new releases, which are available exclusively through live.brucespringsteen.net, mark the debut official versions of Springsteen's original soul-stomper "Action In The Streets."

For the first time ever on a Bruce Springsteen album, "The Boss's" closest confidante and ultimate musical ally -- the great Steve Van Zandt -- is featured as the sole subject on the cover of the Palace Theatre - Albany, NY collection, standing backstage by a road case holding his famed collection of hats.
Van Zandt, who met Springsteen when they were 16, told us that in all of his travels he's never encountered an artist or performer even close to Bruce Springsteen: "He's an exception to almost any rule. Y'know, anybody that follows the pattern of his sort of career choices is doomed (laughs) to failure -- I promise you, okay? It's not like. . . He is completely unique in what he can pull off -- and you get used to that."

Bruce Springsteen recently spoke about what he thinks drives a creative mind: "I believe every artist has someone who told them they weren't worth dirt and someone who told them they were the second coming of the Baby Jesus -- and they believed them both. And that, that's the fuel that (laughs) stirs the fire.”

Springsteen was inspired to take up music at the age of seven after seeing Elvis Presley on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1956 and growing up hearing fellow New Jersey singer, Frank Sinatra on the radio. Sinatra also inspired his style of songwriting, which was developed in his youth after his mother bought him his first guitar for $18
