Sting's 'The Last Ship' coming to Broadway this fall

Sting's musical, The Last Ship, will begin its Broadway run this fall, marking the Police frontman's first original work to hit the "Great White Way." The New York Daily News reported that previews for The Last Ship begin on September 30th at Manhattan's Neil Simon Theatre with an opening night set for October 26th. Producer Jeffrey Seller said of the show, "The words are there. The music is there. It’s time to get into the room and make the play. . . People ask if it’s autobiographical. The only real answer is I think it’s emotionally autobiographical but it’s not autobiographical. There’s no rock singer in The Last Ship. But I certainly think that Sting is inspired by his youth and he’s working through a lot of emotions that all of us are working with as we get older."

Sting and touring partner Paul Simon recently sat down with Rolling Stone and spoke about the pair's current musical team-up: "(Sting): I think it's not so much a spirit of competition between us, it's just raising each other's game to be together. I feel I have to raise my game to (hit) the stage with him. (Paul Simon): We come from very different places culturally; y'know, our voices are different, our accents are different, our sense of rhythm is different. Y'know, I came down and sat in at one of Sting's shows. Then the blend was already beginning to be kinda an interesting blend. And I think that's what we're going to find.”
