Green Day has begun rescheduling some of the live dates that the band canceled in the wake of frontman Billie Joe Armstrong's meltdown at a Las Vegas festival in late September and his subsequent trip to rehab for an extended stay. According to the trio's publicist, a limited run of rescheduled shows will begin on March 28th in Chicago. Eleven shows have been confirmed, with tickets for the original dates to be honored at each stop. However, 10 gigs have been canceled outright and fans have been instructed to seek refunds for those tickets at the point of purchase.
The band said in a statement, "We want to thank everyone for hanging in with us for the last few months. We are very excited to hit the road and see all of you again, though we regret having to cancel more shows."
Armstrong added in a personal message, "Dear friends... I just want to thank you all for the love and support you've shown for the past few months. Believe me, it hasn't gone unnoticed and I'm eternally grateful to have such an amazing set of friends and family. I'm getting better everyday. So now, without further ado, the show must go on."
The original tour dates were scrapped and Armstrong went into rehab just as the band was in the midst of releasing the first of three new albums, Uno!.
While that disc had moderately impressive first-week sales, the next two albums, November's Dos! And last month's Tre!, sold far less. Industry analysts wondered if the band's lack of promotion, the arrival of so much new music in a short amount of time, or both were responsible for the disappointing sales of the three CDs.
