REPORT: SOUNDGARDEN ALBUM COMING IN NOVEMBER

8/16/2012

Soundgarden has set November 13th as the release date of the band's first all-new album in 16 years, according to Rolling Stone. Guitarist Kim Thayil told the magazine about the yet-to-be-titled disc, "It re-establishes that we still rock, we're still heavy, and we're still a little weird," Two songs on the CD will be called "Blood On The Valley Floor" and "A Thousand Days Before," with Thayil saying that the latter "has a little Indian thing and some chicken-pickin' . . . we call it 'country and eastern.'"

Soundgarden began recording the new disc in spring 2011, after reuniting the previous year.

The last collection of all-new Soundgarden material was 1996's Down On The Upside.

A new song called "Live To Rise" was the official first single and video from the soundtrack album of the blockbuster movie The Avengers.

Meanwhile, Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan, a contemporary of Soundgarden's who reformed his group five years ago with a much different lineup, took a dig at Soundgarden in an interview with PhilStar.com, saying, "There are those bands that are essentially coming back only to make money . . . I am not in that business, obviously. I condemn anybody who's in that business but doesn't admit (he's) in that business. When Soundgarden came back and they just played their old songs, great. I was a fan of Soundgarden, but call it for what it is."
