In honor of the 45th Birthday of KSHE 95, I have decided to write a sappy loveletter to this ridiculous-awesome job I have.
enjoy.
KSHE is my first HUGE radio job – probably the best radio job I will ever have, and I hope to ride this wave for as long as it will have me. I know I am working with some of the most ruthless, hilarious, idiotic, smartest, completely candid and honest radio personalities that have ever existed – some of them don’t reside on our airwaves anymore, but they are still legends to me. I am so blessed to be a part of the KSHE era – even if people complain about how “Mainstream” we are now…it’s the principle that back in 1967, before I was even an idea, this radio station paved the way for all radio stations, especially rock around the whole world. I am so proud to have the direction and conversations on and off the air I have had with some of the people I work with in this building.
I know I will never spin a record in my career – I do know how and I own a record player…but that sport of this industry is over. I still get excited about new Aerosmith albums and interviewing Slash on the phone…these things will never cease to exist and they have just taken on a new form of life in the radio industry – more efficient, I guess the term would be…and sober. However, I know this is the best gig I will ever have in my career and that is both depressing and awesome at the same time.
KSHE was part of rock n roll just like Jimi Hendrix was. They both will live on as long as you want them to. KSHE is deep-rooted in my whole, entire life. It brings memories to me of people I have lost in my family, music that is part of my being, and its created relationships on so many levels for me. I am forever grateful that this station exists and I am privileged to call this place “My job.” What is crazy is that once you work here – it gets in your soul. The people who have ever been on the air at KSHE will always come back and have memories of their time here, forever. This station wouldn’t be how it is, if it wasn’t for them, either. I want to give a shout out to some of the DJs I have worked with over this four year span, each one of them special to me in their own way: Katy Kruze, JC Corcoran, Carl the Intern, Dave West, Curt Allen, Tommy T, Real Rock Terbrock, Mike Doran, JP Soto, Favazz, Nick Bacott Ray Collier, Radio Rich, and of course: John Ulett.
Some of the highlights of my time here have been:
Meeting Joe Perry and his wife Billie back in 2008 in studio – they both called me “pretty.” (How freaking cool is that?) That was also the last Aerosmith concert I saw in St Louis…
Driving around Steve Gorman of the Black Crowes numerous times over these past four years when they were in town – we had coffee at Mushuggah on Delmar and I tried to bribe him into giving me Jimmy Page’s cell phone number…never worked.
Hanging out with Jason Bonham (also driving him and his manager to the studio) and him telling me I had the demeanor of Liv Tyler…which is uber-cool.
Interviewing Slash on the phone and talking for 10 minutes…pure bliss.
Also getting chumsy with Fred Armisen of SNL on the phone…he was such a sweetheart.
Meeting Rush…twice…and telling both Alex and Geddy how important they are to St Louis and KSHE…they couldn’t have agreed more. Also, making Alex Lifeson laugh was cool.
Sammy Hagar telling Favazz and Tony Busekrus, that the next time he invites KSHE to Cabo, they have to take me with them. I was smitten and he even knew I was a DLR-VH fan more than Van Hagar…I just love that 65 year old bottle of love. He is great.
Meeting Alice Cooper and Rob Zombie
Going to Spring Training with Uman earlier this year
Getting to debut new Van Halen and new Slash to the KSHE airwaves as well as new Rolling Stones…too cool!
Pig Roasts, KAMP KSHE, KSHE Float Trips, and every concert we have promoted that I have been to!
...there are some I am forgetting...and so many more I am expecting to have!

Thank you to all the listeners over the years -- I know you have your own experience with this St Louis station, and I hope it lives on forever on your mobile device, electronic cars and in your earbuds forever in time. You all rule!!!!! Thanks for getting us to where we are, and where we are going.
So Happy Birthday you sexy, rock-filled, legendary and fabulous radio station! I will be forever honored to make “Lern” a radio wave-name during my time here and a part of the KSHE DJ timeline. 45 never looked or sounded so good!
Forever a Radiohead and KSHE rocker at heart,
Lern (2008-present) or in hair color chronology: (platinum blonde to all-natural)
