The human toll resulting from this week’s catastrophic earthquake in Haiti is enormous. Emmis Communications has a long history of responding to tragedies that impact both our local and global communities. The national Association of Letter Carriers Union has a long history of fundraising for the Muscular Dystrophy Asociation. Our union's involvement goes back tot he first MDA Labor Day Telethon in 1953. In keeping with that tradition, the Belleville Merged Branch #155 is sponsoring a Trivia Night on March 27, all proceeds to benefit MDA. Doors open at 7pm. $10 per person, 8-10 per table. Men with an enlarged prostate, who no longer respond to medication and/or are considering surgery to manage their urinary symptoms, can benefit from a free lecture on Tuesday, April 6th at the Hyland Education & Training Center, 10020 Kennerly Road on the campus of St. Anthony's Medical Center. Dr. Salim Hawatmeh of South County Urological will present the 6 p.m. lecture, which will be followed by a question and answer period.
Reservations are required and can be made by calling South County Urological at (314) 843-8000.
Dr. Hawatmeh, a board-certified urologist who was trained at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, will discuss methods to treat an enlarged prostate. He will discuss the pros and cons of medications, traditional surgery and laser treatments. Specifically, Dr. Hawatmeh will talk about the GreenLight HPS (High Performance System) Laser, which was pioneered at the Mayo Clinic.
The GreenLight laser procedure can be performed in a doctor's office, takes less than an hour to accomplish and can provide rapid symptom relief. The laser is also less invasive than traditional surgery called a TURP, which must be performed in a hospital or outpatient surgery center. The inaugural AM Fun Run is a twilight run, held along the banks of the Missouri River in St. Charles. The race starts in Frontier Park on the Katy Trail at 7:00pm and continues through 3 of the riverfront parks and trails. 10k and 5k runs along with a 1.5 mile walk provide a distance for all abilities.
